In grade school, children learn that it is important to be healthy. There are mandatory PE classes and healthy school lunch options, even though most kids don’t choose the healthy choice. Freshman year of high school each student is required to take health class where nutrition is taught. Yet although the education system attempts to teach the youth of this country ways to be healthy, there are still so many young people struggling with obesity and eating disorders. According to The National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, approximately eight million people in the United States have either anorexia, bulimia or some other kind of eating disorder. And the website ANRED claims that 60% of both male and females in the United States are over weight. So why is this? Why are so many people over eating or under eating when schools provide nutrition information. Is it not enough or are children learning the wrong information?
